The 2020/21 men's World Cup among the Zuers-Davos news for the parallel and the return of Bansko

The FIS has ratified the calendars for the next season, but news is expected in the summer for any changes. The parallels? There are almost as many super-g ...

No surprises, although unfortunately they could arrive all over the next few months. The 2020/21 World Cup looks as it was designed by the FIS in the previous drafts: in the past few hours, with the conclusion of the spring congress, the calendar for the next season has been made official, which for men includes 42 races : these are 10 descents, 6 super-g, 9 giants, 10 slalom, 3 combined and 4 parallel. The two main changes at the stage level concern the latter and the most discussed discipline, which has also undergone a regulatory change and no longer sees the division between PGS and PSL. There will be 4, just a couple of races less than the much sacrificed super-g (a highly appreciated specialty by athletes, professionals and the public), with the inclusion of the weekend entirely dedicated to parallel (individual race, for both men and women, in addition to a team event) on the Austrian snows of Zuers, on 14-15 November, or three weeks after the classic opening with the giants scheduled in Soelden on 24-25 October. For the rest we will go, Covid-19 allowing, on the classic with Levi's slalom, the North American stages of Lake Louise and Beaver Creek, the return to Europe with the technical tests of Val d''Isère and go to the carousel of the Italian races . From 18 to 22 between Gardena, Badia and Campiglio (which returns to its now classic date with the slalom at night on the Miramonti Canal), then the 28-29 in Bormio for descent and combined. January this time will open with the New Year parallel brought home from Davos for the next three seasons, then the slalom classics, the historic weekends of Adelboden, Wengen and Kitzbuehel, until closing the month with the return of the descent of Chamonix, followed by the parallel the next day. After Garmisch and with the great doubt of the Cortina world championships to follow, as well as the Yanqing pre-Olympic jumped last year and not foreseen in the calendar, we will return to Bansko on February 27-28 for combined and giant, until closing as usually between Kvitfjell, Kranjska Gora and Lenzerheide, with the finals set for March 17-21, 2021. Speaking of long-term calendars for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 vintages, said of the reintegration of Wengen after the case that exploded last week, the weekend of the parallel in the second week of November is to be assigned, while Chamonix and Bansko will be out in the first of the two seasons, then returning in February 2023 (although in France with a slalom, instead of the descent on the Verte des Houches, and the parallel) in a substantially identical schedule for all the other stages and the finals scheduled in the 2022 in Courchevel / Méribel one year before the World Cup and in Soldeu in 2023.
