Switzerland loses pieces: retreats as Silvan Zurbriggen

Yet another retreat in Switzerland: to hang the skis to the nail in the men's team & egrave; another veteran, Silvan Zurbriggen, two weeks from & rsquo; farewell Didier D & eacute; phage.

Like many of his colleagues and coworkers the 33 year-old Valais has suffered some serious injuries, such as broken ribs and a concussion in training in & rsquo; in August of 2005 and a cruciate knee skipped the downhill in Val Gardena in 2007 but in these recent seasons & egrave; been hampered by large back problems who did make the best only in flashes and have greatly influenced his decision. & Ldquo; I celebrated some successes that I'm proud during my career & rdquo; Zurbriggen says that now will undertake & agrave; the career of banking & Outdoors; inside of his time sponsor, Raiffeisen Switzerland. Born August 15, 1981, Silvan Zurbriggen, distant cousin of the legendary Pirmin and Heidi, who lives in Briga but grew strongly competitive in the Saas Valley, Silvan boyish & egrave; race specialist techniques, especially slalom, then will turn & agrave; in downhill / nordic combined, so & egrave; true that gi & agrave; in the second and last World juniors dispute that, in 2001, & egrave; silver downhill. His first race FIS & egrave; of November 1996, in the European Cup debut in December 2000 and between 2002 and 2014 he won six races, three runs (all in the 2013-2014 season in which he won the trophy specialty & agrave; and & egrave; third overall!) and 3 slalom (all in & rsquo; calendar year 2002!) finishing on the podium five times. The first of his 254 races of the World Cup & egrave; was the slalom Kitzb & uuml; hel of 20 January 2002, in which a year after finishing seventh arriver & agrave; for the first time among the top 10, l & rsquo; last the super-G in Kvitfjell last March 8, total collects 57 placings in the first 10:13 podiums, the first in the slalom at Sestriere of 13 December 2004, l & rsquo; last in the combined Kitz of January 22, 2012. Of these podiums, two victories, one in the combined Kitz of 25 January 2009 and l & rsquo; the other in the downhill in Val Gardena of December 18, 2010, right on the track and in the race in which he had suffered three years before one of his pi & ugrave; serious injuries. Sar & agrave; precisely the 2010-2011 season the best of his career in the Cup with the sixth place overall and fourth in the downhill and super combined while the & rsquo; previous winter had been third in the slalom. From 2003 to quest & rsquo; year has participated in seven consecutive editions of the World Cup by winning the & rsquo; silver in slalom February 16, 2003 on the snows of caa St. Moritz, while the Winter Olympics in Vancouver the second and the last in which he participated, & egrave; bronze in the super combined was February 21, 2010. A Silvan be a big good luck for his new career!
