Presentation in style for the two days of the Bormio World Cup on 28 and 29 December.
In the splendid Milanese setting of the Belvedere of Palazzo Lombardia, seat of the Region, in the presence, among others, of the president of the FISI Flavio Roda, of the Regional Undersecretary with responsibility for Sport, 2026 Olympics and Major Events, Antonio Rossi, of the regional councilor for institutions local, mountain and small municipalities Massimo Sertori, the President of the province of Sondrio Elio Moretti and the mayor of Bormio, Silvia Cavazzi, in fact, today afternoon the press conference to present the classic appointment with the top male circuit in Valtellina was held, with the "Stelvio", one of the most loved tracks by downhill skiers and probably the most difficult of the circuit, which will host a descent first, dreaming of yet another triumph for Dominik Paris (6 times winner overall in Bormio, 5 of which downhill) on his favorite track, then a super-g.
Waiting for the first consistent snowfall of the season and the low temperatures, necessary to produce the artificial snow to be placed along the route, the volunteers, thanks to a large organization, have finished positioning the protection nets along the entire route. This year there will be 100 students of the Ski Instructors course working on the Stelvio track, as well as the usual mini army of volunteers, about 150 men and women from ski clubs and local associations, for a total of 250 people dedicated to care of the track and the layout which, we remind you, will also host the men's competitions of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
The bad news? The announcement by the organization that, again this year, there will be no opening of the stands of the ski stadium and therefore the event will again be behind closed doors as in 2020.
THE DECLARATIONS
“The various winter sports disciplines have a direct link with the territory - commented the number 1 of the FISI, Flavio Roda - Furthermore, events like these of the highest level make it possible to better convey the image in the world. And in recent years it has also been seen in countries such as India and China, previously absent, which could be new markets to explore. The Stelvio is a very technical, difficult track that athletes like very much for this very reason; here the men's titles of the 2026 Olympics will be awarded and this gives ample guarantees on a technical level ".
"In the last 4 years, thanks also to FISI, the Bormio World Cup race has grown a lot - commented Antonio Rossi - The collaboration between the various bodies, province, municipality of Bormio and FISI, has undoubtedly done the event well . The goal is to grow further in the coming years. This is an important event, which has reached very high levels, with a view to the 2026 Olympics there are many events in the pipeline ".
For Massimo Sertori, “this is a special edition of the two days of the Bormio World Cup, primarily because last year we had a very difficult period and the winter season was skipped. This press conference is a bit like a symbol of the recovery of mountain tourism. The CdM means restart. The province of Sondrio will play a very important role in the 2026 Olympics, we have a great challenge ahead of us that we will certainly win ".
“The two days of the Bormio World Cup is the highlight for us - added Elio Moretti - An event that allows like no other to convey the image of the province of Sondrio and its excellences. Institutions always make sure that the Bormio stage of the Alpine Skiing World Cup is a success ”.
Finally, the comment of Silvia Cavazzi, mayor of the Valtellina area: “For Bormio it is a pride to be able to host a World Cup race. And for us it is now a tradition since this event has been held for 40 years and the two-day circuit allows us to make the most of our territory and is capable of involving the many operators in the area ".
