He is one of the most anticipated men, perhaps the main favorite if he will be able to present himself at 100% of the condition, as on the day of the triumph over the Streif.
After Kitzbuehel, however, Matthias Mayer was bedridden for several days, hit by a flu virus which, he confessed to the Austrian media today, made him lose "almost 5 kg, although fortunately I recovered quite well".
In Saalbach-Hinterglemm, after today's cancellation, on Wednesday (12.45) the only event left on the program should be staged regularly: the weather is improving and the track is ready, after the rains of the past few hours. And right on the Carinthian, author of an amazing brace in the fast races of 2015, he has his headlights pointed towards Thursday's descent and Friday's super-g on the Zwoelferkogel: “I believe that the range of favorites is quite wide - said the bi olympic champion - I remember five years ago I fought a crazy descent, practically in the dark on this track full of bumps. Staying out in Garmisch didn't cost me too much, in the sense that I knew I couldn't be competitive in those conditions. I observed colleagues from outside, for once ... ".
Mayer trained with some teammates in Saalbach last week, between super-g and the giant: "I'm not too worried about being able to play just one race, we still know this track well enough".
