Super-g start shift and a snow and safety plan: news for the Coppa in Val Gardena

The "Italian tour" of FIS managers in Italy also stopped on the Saslong.

And in view of the weekend of races, for the men's World Cup 2019/2020 scheduled in Val Gardena on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 December with super-g and descent, there is no lack of news as announced by the organizers after the inspection by Markus Waldner and the head of the international federation's fast races, the former Austrian downhill racer Hannes Trinkl. Together with the president of the organizing committee, Rainer Senoner, and the track director Horst Demetz, there was therefore the occasion to discuss the previous edition and talk about the changes planned for the December 2019 event. The theme of safety, also considering the terrible fall of Marc Gisin in the descent of 2018, was at the top of the agenda and Val Gardena received praise and compliments for the work done in the rescue phase of the Swiss sprinter, as confirmed by the Markus Waldner himself, speaking of "seriousness and professionalism in the work that the Gardena colleagues have been doing for over 50 years". "We will have many new features for the next edition - explained Rainer Senoner, president of the Saslong Classic Club - First of all, the shifting of the super-g towards Sassolungo, with the approval of the section that has already been prepared and the ok of the FIS received without problems. The route will be even more technical and the images of the Dolomite landscape will be even better. All this also thinking about the future edition of the sprint descent ... ". Innovations that are not lacking also in terms of safety and plant engineering, as runway director Horst Demetz analyzes: "The new snowmaking system made by the Saslong Spa company will allow us to produce up to 30% more snow in the same time frame, ideal to be ready in any condition in December. We then renewed all the A networks and airfences along the entire arc of the track. Finally, together with the Alta Badia organizing committee, we have signed a new agreement with Aiut Alpin: this year there will be a second helicopter rescue team, purely for Cup competitions, without compromising relief efforts throughout the province or having to interrupt the "races.
