It is time for speed for the women's European Cup, finally, since we had to wait until January to see the first super-gs, which took place earlier this month in Zinal, and between Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 here are the first two descents of the continental circuit, scheduled on Mont Lachaux in Crans-Montana which, from 22 to 24 January, will then host the World Cup triptych.
Friday practice day and there will be eight blue on the track, with Nadia Delago and Verena Gasslitter, after the various bibs in CdM, which will be on par with Giulia Albano, Jole Galli, Elena Dolmen, Sofia Pizzato, Federica Sosio and Teresa Runggaldier.
The men's sector, on the other hand, will have a gap a couple of weeks after the slalom of Val Cenis; skipped the super-g of 19-20 in Wengen, due to the well-known reasons linked to Covid, they will compete on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 January in Folgaria. The European Cup returns once again to the “Salizzona” slope, on the snows of the Trentino ski area where, last year, two women's races between the wide doors were held in Fondo Grande (both won by the Norwegian Mina Fuerst Holtmann).
An appointment that will arrive a few days before the great appointment of the Alpe Cimbra Skiarea, which at the end of January will be the scene (from 25 to 30 of the month) of a new edition of the AlpeCimbra Fis Children Cup, the youth "mondialino" that attracts every year in Folgaria the best promises of international skiing.
The dates to be marked on the calendar with regard to the giants of the European Cup at the men's level are, therefore, those of Friday 22 and Saturday 23 January, with the organization entrusted to the Polisportiva Alpe Cimbra and the support of the Folgaria Ski lift company and '' Apt Alpe Cimbra. In Trentino, where the boys have not competed since 2018, when two great gigantists like Stefan Brennsteiner and a certain Marco Odermatt prevailed, the blue Alex Hofer will arrive as leader of the discipline, already twice on the podium in three races between Gurgl and Zinal, with the primacy to defend against the Austrian Raphael Haaser and the German Julian Rauchfuss. And in fourth place, just under 80 points from Hofer, there is the very young Giovanni Franzoni who, after his experiences in the World Cup between Alta Badia and Adelboden, will focus strongly on the races of the continental circuit also in terms of the general classification, commanded by Haaser himself in front of his compatriot Lahnsteiner and Franzoni himself, third at about ninety points from the top.
