The European Cup restarted on the weekend with the first women's descents of the season scheduled in Crans-Montana. As feared, however, the weather in the Canton of Valais definitely influenced the races on Mont Lachaux, with tests and a race staged on Saturday within a few hours, but no encore today with the cancellation of the second appointment after the success achieved yesterday by Jasmine Flury (and for Italy 11th place for Runggaldier and 12th for Albano).
Now it will be the turn of the jet men again, always on the Swiss snow: appointment on Monday and Tuesday in Zinal, the location for the recovery of super-gs canceled in Wengen for the same reasons linked to the Coronavirus that also "killed" the World Cup races on the Lauberhorn. Tomorrow at 11.00 the fourth seasonal specialty race begins, on the same track that last December 7th successfully opened the circuit of Ralph Weber in front of Guglielmo Bosca, then injured in the CdM in Bormio.
The Swiss himself will be one of the favorites in a really high level startlist, despite the semi-concomitance with Kitzbuehel, where the tests of the scheduled descents on the Streif will start on Tuesday; from Piccard to Faivre and Sarrazin, France will definitely aim high like the Swiss who also propose Roulin and Murisier, while Austria will have the leader of the general classification, Raphael Haaser, in addition to the “vice” Lahnsteiner. Italy, without Cazzaniga and Schieder committed to Kitz, relies on Giovanni Franzoni: bib number 8 in the first super-g for the 2001 class of Brescia, already on the podium in the specialty in Zauchensee, almost a month ago, third in the overall and fifth in the specialty ranking.
An important race therefore to bring the permanent position closer to the 2020/21 World Cup; in addition to Franzoni, we will see with higher numbers Molteni, Paini, Cason, Rizzi, Bonardi, Pradal, Simoni and Taranzano.
