Just in the days of the Soelden opening, the news emerged that Rai Sport is about to close.
It is, in fact, the channel that also broadcasts the entire Alpine Ski World Cup, as well as the winter disciplines that Rai broadcasts continuously, in particular cross-country skiing and some Italian stages between jumping and Nordic combined.
Precisely for this 2020/21 season, State TV has started from the Soelden opening to propose an itinerant study (starting from the heart of Brescia), conducted by Sabrina Gandolfi and with Paolo De Chiesa as reference opionist, to launch the various races, also providing an excellent service "on the field", since in addition to the commentators a journalist was sent to the Rettenbach for live interviews, Simone Benzoni.
The risk of having to "move" as much as possible on Rai 2 (as also happened last season, but for a precise editorial choice, on the occasion of the CdM competitions on Italian snow), the network chosen for the main sporting events, is concrete as the possibility that some appointments will be broadcast only on Rai Sport web.
This can be seen from the press release issued by the Rai Sport journalists, after the assembly that unanimously decided on a three-day strike to be defined shortly. "Even if the project only concerned the closure of our channel and not of the newspaper, it would still be very serious and unacceptable, because it would be the prelude to a total closure of Rai Sport, Rai's historic newspaper - reads the note, referring to the decision taken from Salini CEO - It is clear that without the channel the editorial staff would lose its identity and would soon be dismantled. And Rai would fail in its role as a public service, because the first to be penalized would be the millions of fans who pay the fee and who would be deprived of the right to follow the sport in the clear, without being forced to pay a subscription to pay TV.
The overwhelming majority of sports disciplines would also lose, which without a dedicated public service channel would be destined to disappear from all schedules. Rai Sport cannot close. On the contrary, it must be relaunched, but the signals that the Company has been sending us for some time are unequivocal and perfectly in line with the closure project. And the attempt of the Director (Auro Bulbarelli, ed) to reassure us has obtained the diametrically opposite effect, creating further concern, given that in his email to the editorial office he fully embraces this project.
We therefore ask for an assumption of responsibility and a firm stance from the Director, who must unequivocally clarify whether he is on the side of the editorial team and the newspaper he directs, or whether he is with the CEO, who wants to close it. We expect a close and immediate discussion both with the Management and with the Company, to have clarifications on the future of Rai Sport, and to discuss a serious plan to relaunch the Newspaper, the Channel and the entire Rai sports offer. . The assembly of Rai Sport journalists, unanimously, immediately proclaimed the state of agitation and entrusted the CoR with a 3-day strike package ”.
