News in the World Cup calendar: Levi postponed by a week, the slalom in Finland a month after Solden

Waiting for the FIS meeting at the end of the month in Croatia with all the formalities, the location beyond the Arctic Circle formalizes the dates of November 23-24

It will be a very different 2019/2020 World Cup compared to the last played, and it could not be otherwise in the season which, every 4 years, does not include major events such as the World Cup and the Olympics. Beyond the extra races that will take place in February (with the return of women to La Thuile and Bansko, while the men will split between Chamonix, Hinterstoder and the Asian trip for a total record of 46 races), to precede the finals of Cortina as a prelude to the 2021 world championships, the last of the latest news, however, concerns the first weekend of post-classic racing opening of Solden. On the Rettenbach glacier we will start, as is known, with the female giant on Saturday 26 October and the male giant the following day; to follow, the two Levi slaloms will be staged instead seven days later than expected, or four weeks after the Austrian races (never happened in recent years). The Finnish locality received official confirmation from the FIS for the dates of Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November, just one week before the North American competitions of Killington (women) and Lake Louise (men), as happened in the 2018/19 season and certainly not '' ideal for those multipurpose who will immediately have to take on a tour de force (Mikaela Shiffrin had even considered skipping the initial slalom on the advice of coach Mike Day, before winning it). A choice due to the need to have other extra days to find better conditions in terms of temperatures, even if to protect themselves after the cancellations of the previous years, the organizers have already stored the end-of-season snow protected by insulating blankets in special warehouses, for then use it in the preparation of the track in case of need, as happened in November 2018 when the "Levi Black" was composed of a mixture of "old" and artificial snow fired in the weeks preceding the races. The ratification of the Cup calendars will take place on Friday 31 May, at the end of the works in the FIS spring assembly which will be staged, from the 28th of this month to 1 June, in the Croatian town of Cavtat-Dubrovnik where the changes will also be discussed to the various regulations and future formats of the circuit, with particular interest in the discussion related to the parallels and the "survival" of the combined.
