Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, the 2019/2020 alpine skiing season has officially started, with the Argentine snows that hosted the first real races between FIS and South American Cup.
No blue at the start, nor at La Hoya where a couple of slaloms were practically performed with only local athletes, nor at Cerro Catedral where the opening of the SAC saw the participation of several European nationals, with young French and Swiss Spaniards already debuting in the World Cup.
Specifically, the two female giants were won respectively by the 2001 class representative of Madagascar, Mialitiana Clerc, who in the first issue preceded the Argentine expert Maria Belen Simari Birkner and the same age Mia Saglia, and the Russian Elena Yakovishina ('' 92) that in the second appointment beat the US 2001 Meagan Olsen and the same Saglia, with Clerc in this case fourth.
In the two male giants, as well as in slalom, Cedric Pinturault also showed up at the starting gate: yes, he is Alexis's little brother (nine years of difference between the two boys from Courchevel), a 2000 class at first experience at certain levels and able in Argentina to get a 28th place in the second race between the wide doors, after being released in the first as well as in slalom. The two giants thus went both to the Iberian Alejandro Puente Tasias (born in '94), with the British Karavasili and the Chilean Holscher on the podium in the first round (and two names also known at the CDM level as Cristian Javier Simari Birkner and the Spanish Salarich in 4th and 5th place), while the Swiss Kuonen and the other Spaniard Garay celebrated second and third place in the next round.
The first women's slalom saw an all-French podium, with the three 2002 Desmalles, Chalamel and Dauphin celebrating, while among the boys an athlete with 15 bibs in the World Cup, four world and two Olympic participations, or the Spanish Juan Del Campo, who preceded the Swiss of '98 Kippel and compatriot Garay, with Puente Tasias in this fourth case.
The SAC will continue over the weekend and the first two days of next week at El Bolson, still on the Argentine snows, with two slaloms and two giants; the same program, again from 10 to 13 August, of the FIS races of Coronet Peak, in New Zealand, which will see Roberto Nani, who flew to the land of the kiwis to conquer key points to climb the slope.
