The discipline of grass skiing in recent years has always given great satisfaction to the colors of the Trentino Committee of the Fisi, just think of the numerous medals that are won every year at the Italian specialty and category championships, but the results obtained by the young skiers from Trentino summoned to the Absolute and Junior World Championships which took place last week in Stitna Nad Vlari, in the Czech Republic, are truly surprising.
The loot speaks unequivocally: 7 overall medals, of which 6 in the junior competitions and 1 in the absolute competition, but above all 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. The protagonists are four young skiers of undoubted talent, who in the afternoon today were awarded at Sala Rusconi in Trento by the president of Fisi del Trentino, Tiziano Mellarini, together with the president of the provincial Coni Paola Mora and the councilor for craftsmanship, trade, promotion, sport and tourism, Roberto Failoni.
It is a group of talented young people, who have grown up over the years in the staff of the Trentino Committee and the national team, of which the coach Roberto Parisi plays a double role. First of all, the twenty-year-old from Madonna di Campiglio Filippo Zamboni, who has shown that at this moment he is the undisputed king of the special slalom, winning both the junior and absolute titles, leaving behind much more experienced athletes. The Czech World Cup then gave him a silver in super combined and a bronze in super-g in the junior category. The champion of the Campiglio Ski Team, always on the same slopes as the Czech Republic, had a bronze around his neck in the 2019 edition of the junior world championships, in the super-g specialty.
A gold medal then came from the very young Andrea Iori, standard bearer of the Agonistica Campiglio Val Rendena. The boy from Bleggio Inferiore, in his first year in the junior category, at the age of only 16 he lined up everyone in the super-g of the junior category, showing great skills of fluency as well as great determination. And yet in the absolute race of the same specialty he finished in fifth position, not far from the medals area. Triumphal review also for the Rovereto of the Alpe Cimbra Ski Team, Daniele Buio, who obtained a silver in the junior giant slalom and seventh in the same race also valid for the absolute category. For him this is the second under 21 world champion medal, given that in 2018 he finished third in the slalom at Monte Campione.
For the twenty-year-old from Ponte Rendena, Ambra Gasperi, the joy came right on the last day of competition, when she managed to get a bronze in the super combined in the junior category, in a world championship that for her seemed bewitched, considering that she fell in the second run of the slalom, after he was in the lead halfway through the race and considering a fourth place in the super combined overall. Three other young people from Trentino also took part in the world championship week of Stitna Nad Vlari with the aim of gaining experience in view of the next seasons. Among other things, all three from Levico Terme, namely Alex Galler, Nicolò Libardoni and Federica Libardi. For them also the satisfaction of having obtained very interesting placings in the future.
The races of the Junior World Championships were also valid for the general classification of the World Cup in the category, in addition to all the FIS races, where further successes were achieved. Filippo Zamboni in fact won the 2021 title, ahead of Daniele Buio, with Andrea Iori fourth and also in the women's field Ambra Gasperi won the cup, with Federica Libardi in fourth place. It should also be remembered that Zamboni finished in second place in the absolute World Cup classification of special slalom. "It was only right to foresee this celebratory moment - highlighted the president of Fisi Trentino, Tiziano Mellarini - for the guys who brought up the colors of our territory and who thanks to the work done first in the ski clubs, then in the Trentino Committee and now in national team, reaching the highest point with exciting medals ".
Paola Mora of the provincial Coni echoed: “It's a fantastic summer for Italian sport. These medals also have a relevant significance, if we consider that they were obtained by young athletes, who have married sport to other habits, celebrating, among other things, a sport that does not have an important sounding board. These are the most beautiful victories ”. In closing, the councilor Roberto Failoni reiterated the value of youth sport: “As a Province in recent years we have always shown a particular closeness to basic activity, to ski clubs, to the Trentino Committee. Rewarding young people who have followed this path is a source of pride for me and the testimony that the projects we have set up are bearing fruit, hoping to solve one of the most obvious problems, namely the relationship with the school. We are working on it and we hope to realize a significant collaboration soon ".
