Trentino confirms itself as a hotbed of talents in the discipline of grass skiing, given that already on the first day of the World Championships in Stitna Nad Vlari, in the Czech Republic, Daniele Buio from Rovereto put the silver medal around his neck in the giant slalom, the second for Italy after the one won by Edoardo Frau at a senior level.
Buio, 21 years old of the Alpe Cimbra Ski Team, as already amply demonstrated in the stages of the World Cup, has confirmed that he is able to express himself between the wide doors. In the world championship race, which saw both the absolute and the junior categories challenge each other in a single competition, the Azzurri obtained the seventh place overall and precisely the second among the under 21s, just 30 cents from the winner, the Austrian Roland Schloegl, managing to gnaw a couple of tenths in the second heat thanks to a performance full of determination.
For Buio this is not the first medal at the junior world championships, since in 2018 he finished third in the special slalom in Montecampione: "I am very happy for this medal, which gratifies a very positive season in the World Cup, where I improved in all specialties. and especially in a giant way - his words in the post-race - In the first heat I was not able to ski as smoothly as I wanted, also because I suffered from the track. In the second fraction, on the other hand, I found the right motivations and the right attitude to do a great test and recover positions. And the gold wasn't that far away, but there are still many races in these world championships. I'll do my best".
A brace for the Azzurri and Trentino colors almost came out, given that the Giudicariese of the Campiglio Ski Team, Filippo Zamboni, had to settle for the wooden medal (fourth place and tenth overall) for just one hundredth of a second, throwing wind the podium in the decisive heat. Positive then the twelfth place and fifth junior for the very young Andrea Iori (year 2005), while the other two from Trentino competing with the aim of gaining international experience concluded more detached: Alex Galler was 26th overall and 18th junior , then Nicolò Libardoni 30th and 23rd junior. In terms of medals, in addition to Zamboni, Ambra Gasperi also has to complain in contention for a junior podium until the last: the twenty-year-old from Porte Rendena, after finishing the first heat in sixth absolute position and third junior, is not managed to express himself as he wanted, losing two positions both in the senior ranking (at 1 ”98 from the Japanese winner Chisaki Maeda), and in the junior one, where he finished fifth.
The very young Federica Libardi from Levico finished 17th overall and 13th junior. The Azzurri will have the opportunity to make up for it today, when only the slalom races of the junior world championships are scheduled and where the specialist Filippo Zamboni expects to redeem himself immediately, as well as Ambra Gasperi among the ladies.
