The German took the gold medal by beating the Norwegian by a neck. The world title in ski flying returns to Germany after six years. Bronze medal for another German: Markus Eisenbichler. Giovanni Bresadola's performance was still positive, at the end 24th.

Even on the second day the race was very balanced and uncertain until the last jump. The third and penultimate series saw the best four break the competition and hunt for medals. Karl Geiger with a “five star” jump landed at 241m, gaining almost 8 points of margin over Halvor Egner Granerud, who landed at 239.5m. The two then ran for the world title. Markus Eisenbichler (234.5 m) and Michael Hayboeck (237.5), on the other hand, suffered a more considerable delay and, separated by just one point, ignited the fight for the bronze medal.
Giovanni Bresadola confirmed himself on good levels, good at defending himself in unfavorable wind conditions. The blue, landed at 192 m, managed to gain a position, finishing 24th. In the fourth and decisive series, the 2001 class of Cles, he then confirmed himself as the best junior in the competition and took away the satisfaction of overcoming 200 m for the fourth time in his career, pushing himself up to 202 m. A positive and comforting sign for the Italian movement.
In the decisive jump Granerud tried to assault the gold medal and with an excellent execution he pushed himself up to 243 m, landing however without telemark and losing several points on the stylistic evaluations. This detail turned out to be crucial. In fact, Geiger did not go beyond 231.5 m but got an excellent score from the judges. The two went head to head to win the world title, but in the end it was the German who came out the winner by only 5 tenths. Bronze medal instead for Markus Eisenbichler, who in the final series had no problem getting the better of his rival Hayboeck (4th).
