Planica, the wait is over: finally the world flying show can begin

After a long wait tomorrow the world ski flying championships will open in Planica, in a new and “winter” version. Flight competitions in December are an exception but the show is guaranteed. In addition to the title, there are records at stake: personal, national and, why not, even the world record. Two blues present and ready to amaze: Giovanni Bresadola and Alex Insam.

Initially scheduled for March and postponed due to the pandemic, the world ski flying championships can finally begin and, despite Covid-19 has also recently hit the jumping world, all the expected protagonists will be at the start. Starting with the reigning world champions: Daniel Andre Tande (individual trial) and Norway (team trial). However, Tande does not appear as a favorite or as a star of the team, a role that instead belongs to Halvor Egner Granerud, in an open streak of three consecutive victories in the CdM and expected in a new stellar duel with the German Markus Eisenbichler. Germany that comes to Planica with two potentially winning cards: in addition to the aforementioned Eisenbichler there will in fact be the return of Karl Geiger. Two (and a half) the points that will instead be deployed by Poland: Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch, who is hunting for the only title missing in his immense showcase. Together with them we must not forget Piotr Zyla, who starts as an outsider but can have his say for a medal. At the moment a medal seems difficult for Austria, which presents all its stars at the start, with the exception of Daniel Huber (stopped by the positivity at Covid-19), but all returning from a forced stop due to the positivity found in the opening by Wisla. For Kraft and his teammates it will therefore be essential to make the most of all the training jumps to find the best feeling with the trampoline. Medals that seem distant even for a noble in decline: Ryoyu Kobayashi, who in order to fight for something important will have to make a double qualitative leap compared to what has been shown up to now. The Japanese will therefore bet all their chips on Yukiya Sato, current leader of the Japanese movement. The Slovenian hosts also leave as an outsider and will choose the “starting” quartet only after the training jumps. However, if one of the brothers Prevc, Zajc, Jelar, Lanisek and Pavlovcic finds the perfect day (or rather the days), a medal could remain in Slovenia. This is the complete program of the world championship: Thursday 10 December at 16:00 - Qualification Friday 11 December 16:00 - Individual Competition, I and II series Saturday 12 December at 16:00 - Individual competition, III and IV series Sunday 13 December 4 pm - Team competition
