In the magnificent scenery of Koenigssee the unexpected happens in both races of the World Cup stage. To open the weekend is the women's test, where the German Jacqueline Loelling wins, who comes back from third position, makes no mistake and takes advantage of the mistakes of her opponents.
The Weidenau native, with the victory number 12 of her career, grabs Anja Selbach Huber at the top of the all-time ranking. The section of the Turbodrom track is decisive in the economy of the race, where errors follow each other especially in the second heat and is fatal for the chances of victory of Elena Nikitina, second after the first segment of the race, at the end fifth, but above all for Tina Hermann, who after having stamped the track record with a perfect first descent, falls to tenth position and must probably give up all hope of excelling in the standings, being now 146 points away from the cup leader Janine Flock who, despite making a mistake in the same point of the track, limits the damage and takes advantage of the disasters of others by occupying the third step of the podium in cohabitation with the Canadian Jane Channell, in the first race of the season.
On the second step another German is positioned, who however competes as standard bearer of the Czech Republic, or Anna Fernstaedt on the third podium in her career. The only Italian in the race today is Elena Scarpellini, who finishes 21st after a heat with, unfortunately, many imperfections.
In the men's competition, something even more unpredictable happens because it is the beacon of the specialty, Martins Dukurs, who makes mistakes. The phenomenon from Riga, after not coming out of the first two positions in the first six rounds of the season, makes a mistake in the exit in the aforementioned Turbodrom, falls to 11th final position and sees the margin points in the standings tapered to 60 on the winner of the day, Alexander Gassner.
For the German the second consecutive victory after the one in Switzerland and, just like in the previous statement, it all happens in a handkerchief of cents. In second place the Korean Yun Sungbin, trailing by only 4 cents, while the Russian Alexander Tretiakov, with the best time in the second run, reaches the third step. At the foot of the podium the German Axel Jungk, in his first outing of the season. Positive, but with regret, the test of the blue bearer and the only current representative, Mattia Gaspari at the end of 13th. Ampezzano was held back in his recovery of the second run from a mistake two corners from the finish, without which he could have even reached the top ten.
