Azzurri already dominant in the opening of CdM: Lanthaler uncatchable, super double of Lambacher

Luge on natural track: in Winterleiten rain of successes for the national team, with Evelin who signs another brace followed by Staffler and Pinggera. Clara/Pigneter folded by teammates.

A series of victories and podiums to start the 2022/23 season in a great way, with the Luge World Cup on a natural track already with many blue signatures. On the gut of Winterleiten, in Austria, the Italian national team started with the third place of Florian Clara in the men's single, behind only the hosts, namely the champion Thomas Kammerlander, first in 2''04”26, and his compatriot Michael Scheikl. Fourth place for Alex Gruber: the holder of the crystal ball, despite the best time in both heats in the first part of the track, paid off on the central section, losing precious tenths of a second until finishing 0.99 behind the winner. Three Azzurri in the top ten, thanks to Mathias Troger's sixth place. On the second day of competition, rain of blue podiums with Evelin Lanthaler who immediately clarified things in the women's single. The 31-year-old from South Tyrol inflicted a gap of 1"49 on the second classified, the Austrian Tina Unterberger, but there is room in Italy also for the third place of an excellent Greta Pinggera - delayed by 1"72 from Lanthaler - and for the fourth of Nadine Staffler. Seventh Daniela Mittermair. Glory also in the men's doubles, where the Azzurri scored a fantastic brace thanks to the couple Patrick Lambacher / Matthias Lambacher, first in front of teammates Patrick Pigneter / Florian Clara, behind by just 4 cents. The Austrians Achenrainer/Brugger came third at 2”66, while the Azzurri Anton Gruber Genetti/Hannes Unterholzner overturned during the first heat. Same results in the men's doubles pursuit with the first three positions unchanged, for the second triumph of the Lambachers. Sunday a thrilling final in the other pursuits: Evelin Lanthaler got rid of the German Lisa Walch in the semifinal, to then go on to win the final in a fratricidal duel with her teammate Nadine Staffler, on her first podium in the World Cup. Third the Austrian Tina Unterberger. For Lanthaler it was the 39th career victory, the 16th in a row. Finally, the men's single, with Thomas Kammerlander and Michael Scheikl against the blues Alex Gruber and Florian Clara. A very tough challenge, which ended with Scheikl's victory by two cents ahead of Gruber, third by 7 cents Kammerlander, fourth Clara.
