Tobogganing: Koenigssee races moved to Winterberg. In Sweden, the reopening of the Hammarstrands gut is planned

It will be up to the '' Veltnis-Eisarena '' to host the stage of the World Cup that should have been held in Bavaria. Instead, EU funding is ready to restore the Swedish plant.

On Monday, the news arrived that, due to the extensive damage caused by the flood that hit most of Germany last week, the Koenigssee track would not be available for the 2021-2022 season. FIL immediately got to work and yesterday evening the official change of venue for the luge World Cup stage arrived: in fact, Winterberg will take the place of Koenigssee, thus doubling the number of races that will host over the next season. Official communications have not yet arrived on this from the IBSF, which probably has yet to find a location willing to host the canceled stages in Koenigssee. Important news from Sweden, however: after years of total anonymity in the discipline, an investment is coming for the construction and modernization of the gut of Hammarstrands. The funding supporting the project comes largely from the EU Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, and consists of SEK 647,479. The project is divided into two parts: one concerns the study of a possible development of a toboggan run in Hammarstrands, the second a phase of modernization of the structure to be able to use it over the next winters. The works started on 29 March and will finish around the end of March 2022. "This is a fantastic investment. In Sweden there is a shortage of facilities for sledding, bobsleighs and skeletons; after so many years they are finally investing in such a project. The pandemic has created new opportunities, which must be exploited. - said the manager of Kälksport Hammarstrand, Hasse Abrahamson - The track will be used for the training of our athletes, but the goal is to organize international competitions as well. We need to work on the length of the track, trying to get as close as possible to 1200 meters. "
