The long track season begins (finally): the Azzurri for the European Championship in Heerenveen

On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 January we start in the "bubble" of the plant in the Netherlands. First the continental races, then two stages of the World Cup and finally the World Cup.

Finally, the long track skating season also begins. A month of fire what awaits the Italian national team involved in the Heerenveen bubble this weekend. As established by the ISU, it will in fact be the Dutch ice of the "Thialf" to host, one after the other, the most important events of the year: the start just this weekend, on 16 and 17 January with the Europeans, then the two stages of the World Cup from 22 to 24 January and from 29 to 31 of the month, and finally the World Cup scheduled from 11 to 14 February. A tour de force for the blues of sports director Maurizio Marchetto and sprint coach Matteo Anesi, who trained in recent months at the Ice Rink Pinè in Baselga, in Trentino. Seven athletes called for the first appointment, that of the continental review: they are Francesca Lollobrigida (Aeronautica Militare), Linda Rossi (Torollski Center), Francesco Betti (Fiamme Oro), David Bosa (Fiamme Oro), Andrea Giovannini (Fiamme Gialle ), Michele Malfatti (Fiamme Gialle) and Mirko Giacomo Nenzi (Fiamme Gialle). Also joined to the team Davide Ghiotto (Fiamme Gialle), whose work will be viewed day by day by the blue technical staff in order to monitor his recovery from the injury in view of the next events. The Europeans will include the all-round competition and the sprint one: the first - in which the Azzurri Lollobrigida and Rossi will take part in the female, Giovannini and Malfatti with Betti reserve for the male - will be played over distances of 500, 1000, 1500, 3000 and 5000 for women, while 500, 1000, 1500, 5000 and 10,000 for men. The second one foresees two heats on both 500 and 1000 meters and will see Bosa with Nenzi as a reserve. "Since October we have not been able to travel abroad and our choice was to work in Italy, at the Ice Rink Pinè in Baselga, in compliance with all health and safety regulations - explains the blue ds Maurizio Marchetto - In compared with other nations we were not able to compete in competitions but only domestic Test Races which, together with the daily training sessions, gave us important indications in the choice of convocation. Unfortunately, both Bonazza and Tumolero are struggling with physical problems that do not allow them to present themselves in shape to the Europeans and therefore the list of eligible candidates has shrunk. We bring a valuable team to the Netherlands even if we haven't had any feedback from international events yet and the competition is really fierce. In any case, we will do our best to be ready ”.
