A difficult winter season this year that saw over 500 ski areas across Europe close in advance to deal with the emergence of the coronavirus, not to mention the North American resorts.

Starting from last week, the ski resorts, first in Italy and then in other countries, have gradually started to announce the closure of the ski lifts to protect the health of tourists and the local population.
Let's see in detail which countries are currently adapting to the government's restrictive measures.
ITALY
On the evening of 9 March, the Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies, Francesco Boccia, announced the immediate closure of the ski lifts across the country. In the previous hours and days, however, some ski resorts had already decided to stop, among them the Dolomiti Superski ski carousel, Friuli Venezia Giulia and, subsequently, Trentino Alto Adige. By March 8, the Aosta Valley had already closed the plants, by decision of the regional government, and Lombardy by order of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, being the region of Italy most affected by the coronavirus.
AUSTRIA
The lifts are closed from Sunday 15 March.
Governors' Comments:
"It was not an easy decision, but we take responsibility for all Tyroleans and all the people who are currently in Tyrol," said Günther Platter, governor of Tyrol.
"This decision was far from easy, but I see it as a necessary step to do everything possible to curb the spread of the coronavirus" are the words of Wilfried Haslauer, governor of the state of Salzburg.
"For us the health of our guests, employees and the people of Vorarlberg is our top priority," said Markus Wallner, governor of Vorarlberg.
At present Ischgl and Sankt Anton are the two ski resorts most affected by the coronavirus.
SWITZERLAND
At its meeting on March 13, the Federal Council gave orders to close all lifts immediately until April 30. Until that date, events with more than 100 people are also prohibited and the presence of more than 50 people is not allowed in restaurants, bars and discos. In this way it will be easier to keep the mutual safety distance.
FRANCE
He was among the last countries to announce the early closure of the winter season. Until the end, he insisted on keeping the lifts open and the ski resorts tried to remain active until the end of the season. Among these also Montgenèvre, the district of Vialattea.The news of the restrictive measures and the closure of the ski lifts was announced by Minister Edouard Philippe on Saturday 14 March.
OTHER COUNTRIES
All Colorado ski resorts are temporarily closed for at least a week. The 100 ski areas that are part of Vail Resorts, an American mountain resort company, are also closed. The first North American resorts to close were Berkshire East, Burke Mountain, Jay Peak and Taos. Furthermore, several places in Norway, such as Trysil, and some stations in Slovakia such as Jasna were closed.
