For some ski resorts the costs are not sustainable. And you choose to turn off the snow cannons.

First the pandemic that forced the plants to be closed last season. Now the cost of making snow on the ski slopes has risen, which seem to have doubled in two months. A cost so high that it risks putting some ski resorts in crisis.
This is the case, for example, of Cerreto Laghi, a ski area in Emilia Romagna. Marco Giannarelli, director of the Appennino Tourism company, which manages the facilities, explained to the Reggio Emilia edition of "Il Resto del Carlino" that 56,000 euros were spent for the first twenty days of December. A figure that could increase to approximately 90,000 euros of electricity. For this reason it has now been decided to keep the snow cannons off at night. The current low temperatures, in fact, are making it possible to ski with previously produced snow that is being kept unchanged. Already in November, two days of firing guns had led to a bill of 19,000 euros.
"Today we can only hope for new snowfalls from the sky to be able to go on with the winter season - said director Marco Giannarelli to 'Il Resto del Carlino' - because under these conditions the costs are more unsustainable for us. to continue the activity because the super-cost of electricity must be added to that of diesel fuel for the vehicles that move on the slopes. We count on favorable weather conditions, but in the next few days we have to make our assessments whether or not to continue skiing in the face of such excessive costs ".
Even in Lombardy, the high temperatures and the absence of snow led to the small stations having to produce snow. And here too we are talking about a significant increase in the cost of electricity, an increase of 40%. The positive note is that during the holidays there was a high number of visitors, beyond expectations for a period of season with little snow. But the hope of the plant managers is that there will be some snow in the coming days in order to reduce the costs of artificial snow and go on until February.
