The question that all ski and mountain enthusiasts ask themselves in this very difficult period that the country is going through due to the second wave of coronavirus is when the lifts will reopen, but above all if the winter season can begin.
Today, the President of Anef (National Association of Cableway Operators), Valeria Ghezzi, took stock of the situation: “There are two factors. Today, with the curve of the increase in infections and the situation in which the country finds itself, we perceive that there is fear of wanting to give the green light to skiing as we perceive that we are looking for a solution that in reality does not exist. in order to limit inflows, accesses, queues. Queues that, if we rely on distance, will be longer and longer. And psychologically we know that very long queues make an impression, they are also exploited by the media. The influx of people is frightening. There is therefore this idea of reducing the capacity of the plants, but in doing so we increase the queues. While, if we increase the range, we shorten the lines but there is the psychological discourse of the fear of being inside a cabin where there is no distance. The protocol is under discussion. It is passing between the Conference of the Regions and the Technical Scientific Committee, but they too do not hide that, in this situation, it is difficult for us to reach a manageable square. Today we estimate the loss of the winter season, assuming it starts, between 50 and 70% ”.
"Installers today feel very alone in the very difficult choice of whether or not to make snow because we are also preparing for this, not just safety. We have never been so happy that the cold has not yet arrived. For us, snow means. go and spend about 100 million euros. If the government has already decided that we will have Christmas at home, it would be good to know immediately, before throwing away all this money. This is our great drama today and I guarantee that it is not easy to get out of it . It is a great responsibility. We realize that if on the first cold day we decide not to make snow, we take it for everyone: hoteliers, restaurants, rentals, ski instructors. If we didn't open, many businesses would be in financial difficulty. I would have preferred a total closure and arrive at Christmas with a little peace of mind. And today I don't know if we have this tranquility for Christmas. We are assuming an opening around mid-December, but we need a pr otocollo sustainable, as the September one was deemed insufficient with the current situation, and that the contagion curve reverses the trend. Only this reversal and the emptying of hospitals will allow us to open at Christmas. Unfortunately the rules are not respected and if we continue like this, I see it difficult that we can go back to skiing ”.
Flavio Roda, President of Fisi also spoke on the question: “We need to start again not only with competitive sport, but with tourism, with all the stations, with amateurs. It would be a big problem if there was an interruption throughout the winter season. My wish is to stop everything at this moment with the hope of being able to leave before Christmas ”.
