The Institute of Statistics of the Province of Trento has published data on winter tourism for the 2018/2019 season. Compared to the previous (record) season, there was a decline, in particular hotel facilities suffered a 3.2% decrease in arrivals and 2.7% in presences.

Hotel presences, which represent 81.4% of the total overnight stays recorded in the complex of accommodation facilities (excluding private accommodation and second homes), although down compared to the previous season, are in any case part of a trend of constant growth observed in the dynamics of the last seasons. The result of the winter 2018/2019 is the second best result of the last 10 years.
Overnight stays recorded amount to over 7 million; 55.9% of the movement is made up of Italian presences.
The central winter months are characterized by negative changes, while the end periods show growing data: specifically, December closes with + 2.2% and April with a + 9.7%. April results are clearly influenced by the positioning of Easter. The month of February is confirmed as the period with the highest number of overnight stays (over one million and eight hundred thousand.
For the Italian presences there is a decrease of 4.7%, more marked in the hotel sector. The main regions of origin are confirmed as Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Veneto and Tuscany. On the other hand, foreign presences are on the rise, increasing by 2.2% compared to the previous winter season and thus consolidating their overall market share of the movement
2 provincial tourism (44.1% of the total attendance). Polish, German, Czech, English and Belgian tourists are among the first to confirm.
The trend in the individual territories is generally negative; the areas of Trento, Monte Bondone and Valle dei Laghi, Valsugana-Tesino, Valli di Sole, Peio and Rabbi and Altopiano di Pinè and Valle are growing.

Dolomiti UNESCO, il bilancio di Banca d'Italia: +9% di pernottamenti senza consumare più territorio
Il paper di Banca d'Italia analizza gli effetti sui flussi turistici e sull'ambiente nei 4 anni successivi all'iscrizione delle Dolomiti nella lista dei Patrimoni Mondiali dell'Umanità, avvenuta nel 2009. A fronte di un incremento delle presenze, il numero di strutture turistiche non è cresciuto e quello di posti letto si è ridotto. Ai maggiori flussi turistici non si è associato né un aumento del consumo di suolo né una maggiore produzione di rifiuti, dimostrando il potenziale del riconoscimento UNESCO nel generare benefici economici locali senza compromettere la qualità ambientale, a condizione che siano in atto un efficace coordinamento istituzionale e solide garanzie normative.
