Are lifts closed or open at Christmas? The countries of the European Union are divided. Italy, Germany and France have announced that there will be no skiing during the holidays, while Austria would like to open the resorts from December.

Giuseppe Conte proposes a closure of the ski resorts at European level during the Christmas holidays, but the European Union replies that this will not be possible.
"The decision on skiing is a national competence, not a European one. We need to be cautious in revoking anti-Covid measures because this can cause the virus to resurface. In addition to the Italian government, Chancellor Angela Merkel has also tried to find an agreement with European Union countries in Germany to keep ski resorts closed until the beginning of January to curb the spread of the coronavirus and will put pressure on others EU countries follow suit.
Like Germany and Italy, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, also said that ski resorts will be closed during the Christmas holidays.
Austria, on the other hand, is against the closure of the ski areas at Christmas and will try to open the ski lifts from December.
