Valeria Ghezzi, President Anef: "The Government must realize that, if we don't open the plants, we will send the mountain to pe

On Wednesday 30th the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces approved the new health protocol, revised with the suggestions indicated by the Technical Scientific Committee a few days ago. The Regions have asked the Government to open the ski lifts on January 18th as the date of January 7th now seems impossible.

Valeria Ghezzi, President of Anef ((National Association of Cableway Operators) stressed the need to be able to kick off the winter season, not for skiing but for all the professionals in the white tourism sector: "We must realize that for we are at stake for 12 months, not 4. And then the question is not giving up skiing, but all the jobs that are at stake and of people who have no protection. In this way we send the mountain to peak " . “By now, if we manage to open it, it will be to save some employment for families who have nothing and it will be to pay some debt - explains Valeria Ghezzi -. It will certainly not be to earn, but it is better this way than waiting for refreshments for which we have not had any feedback. We as a category have had nothing in March and nothing to date. The ski instructors, perhaps, in April will have taken the 1,000 euros for VAT. In my opinion, what is still not clear in Rome is that for us these four months of winter season are worth 12. If by chance we arrive in April then we will talk about it again in 2021, because the ski instructor no longer has raw materials and neither do we. And the summer season, on the annual turnover of the sector, represents a figure that is between 5 and 10%. So 90% do it in the winter, until April ”. Currently about 90% of the Italian cableway companies belong to ANEF, distributed both in the Alpine territories, in the Apennine ones, and in the islands. Representativeness is ensured by direct membership, or through territorial sections, of over 1,500 plants, with an estimated workforce of about 13,000 units, between fixed and seasonal, in the period of full activity.
