Valle d'Aosta, Chamois: a peaceful car-free community surrounded by snow

A beautiful plateau at the height of 1815 meters in front of the Matterhorn, lies the little city of Chamois, a characteristic peaceful and unspoiled alpine village where cars cannot access.  Simplest way to arrive to Chamois is the cable car from the valley of Buisson, a fraction of Antey Saint Andre, and that leads you there in 5 minutes.  Alternatively you can go up a winding track that has 93 curves and 700 meters, or take a trail that will lead you on foot or by mountain bike, or traveling by plane, because the village has a small altiport.

The municipality has only 96 inhabitants and is the only one in Italy not reachable by car, particularity that gives peace and serenity to those who live there and visitors, in full harmony with the environment surrounding light years away from traffic, noise and pollution which is accustomed city dweller.

Since its square - overlooked by the town hall, church, shops and hotels, stations of ski lifts and cable car used to transport goods - branch star trails leading to the various fractions, each with its stone fountain in the center and the typical houses in alpine style. During the summer months, around the country, you can still see the terraces once used for crops of rye, potatoes, beans and vegetables and now used for grazing.

Winter in Chamois offers a ski area with downhill skiing that has 4 lifts and 15 km of slopes, plus a baby park consists of two pitches served by treadmills. In the resort there are also two rings cross-country skiing, one near the town of Lod and a lake. Many are also the goals to be reached by hiking on snowshoes to walk on the pristine blankets of snow and enter deep contact with nature, discovering the people.

Chamois is also the ideal starting point for many hikes to alpine skiing, with trails for all levels. Very popular is for example the slope of the hill with Nana continued, for the most experienced, Becca Tracare, or the path from the Hill of Falinare can reach Valtournenche.

The town participates in the project "Alpine Pearls", including several locations in the Alps engaged in the development of sustainable tourism through initiatives that affect mobility,'' the protection of the environment, the upgrading of traditional products and local culture .
