In Toronto, roads, schools and vaccination centers closed due to a severe snow storm. Thousands of US flights canceled.

In Toronto, Canada, a severe snowstorm has forced schools, vaccination centers and public transport to be shut down. Up to 60 cm of snow is expected. Only yesterday, Monday 17 January, 36 cm fell. The last time a storm with more than 25 centimeters occurred in Toronto was in 2019, and with more than 30 centimeters in 2008.
Enviroment Canada meteorologist Ray Houle said, “This is a historic snowstorm. One of those storms that happen once every ten years ”.
Local authorities are urging Toronto residents to continue restricting travel.
Snow began falling overnight on Sunday, with several inches rapidly accumulating across much of the city of Toronto and surrounding areas. On Monday afternoon, cars and transport were blocked throughout the city.
The provinces of Quebec and Ontario have been put on alert.
The blizzard is affecting not only Canada but also the United States. More than 3,000 domestic and international flights have been canceled and more than 145,000 people are without electricity.

Per il trimestre ottobre-dicembre sale dal 69 al 75% la probabilità che il fenomeno raggiunga un’intensità mai osservata nella serie storica iniziata nel 1950. Uno scenario che dobbiamo monitorare per capire gli scenari possibili per l’inverno 2026/2027.
