The 2019/2020 Meteorological Winter began on December 1st and this week the first frosts on the plains in Northern Italy are expected.

A mass of polar air of Arctic origin has been affecting the North East of Europe and Russia for some days, but now it is heading towards the central sector of the Continent and thanks to the currents from the north it will encounter on its way it should arrive in Italy starting from Tuesday 3 December. Nighttime frosts are expected in the Val Padana, with morning temperatures even below zero. The maximum effects of cooling will occur on Wednesday, when cold air settles in the lower layers of the atmosphere.
The cold currents will be hampered in the second part of the week by an anticyclone with a milder area that could go up the peninsula from south to north, bringing the temperatures back to the average of the period.

NOAA: torna El Niño, come potrebbe influenzare l'inverno 2026-2027 sulle Alpi?
La NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) ha pubblicato il 9 luglio il nuovo aggiornamento sul fenomeno climatico ENSO (El Niño-Southern Oscillation), confermando che El Niño è ormai in pieno sviluppo e che continuerà a rafforzarsi nei prossimi mesi. Secondo i climatologi statunitensi, il fenomeno dovrebbe raggiungere il proprio massimo proprio durante l'inverno boreale 2026-2027, con una probabilità del 97% di persistere fino alla primavera 2027 e con possibilità sempre più elevate di raggiungere un'intensità tra le più elevate osservate dal 1950.
