France is certainly a lovely place to ski. In addition to the most popular ski resorts frequented by Italians, such as Les2Alpes and Val Thorens, there are many others to discover in this new year. From the traditional alpine charm of Val d''Isere to nights at the casino in Megeve, here are the opening dates of the best French ski resorts.

Val d''Isere, Lifts opening November 26th
Located in the Espace Killy ski area, Val d''Isère is famous for its vast ski area, lively après-ski scene, historic Alpine charm and elegant chalets. Encompassing a huge ski area from Le Fornet to La Daille and with fast connections, Val d''Isère offers a huge area to explore.
An attractive terrain for both advanced skiers and beginners, where you can challenge yourself with off-piste skiing such as Vallée Perdue and ride the infamous track from the 1992 Olympic Games, the Bellevarde Face.
To relax after a day in the mountains, you can choose different places, such as La Folie Douce or Le Blizzard. There is also a fantastic place where Savoyarde cuisine can be found, namely the 1789 restaurant.
Tignes, Lifts opening November 27th
Made up of five villages, Tignes is a varied locality with different characters, from the cemented Val Claret and Le Lac to the historic Les Boisses and Les Brevieres. Offering a wide range of snow sports activities, this place is an adrenaline junkie's dream.
With a softer side, Tignes also boasts some of the most interesting natural features you'll find in a ski resort, including Aiguille Percée and hidden ice caves. Due to its altitude, the resort also offers a view of Lac du Chevril, which is located at the bottom of the Tignes valley.
A long and rewarding ski route from the top of Glacier du Grande Motte to the intriguing historic Barrage de Chevril, the diverse areas of Tignes make it one of the most diverse and unique ski resorts in France.
Megeve, Lifts Opening December 18th
Megève is a luxury ski resort, the first to be built in France (in 1910), and is often visited by a wealthy group of trendsetters. It is located just 20 kilometers from Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, and its ski area covers nearly 450 kilometers of pistes, plus 95 kilometers of cross-country trails.
Megève's main attraction is an authentic Alpine village atmosphere that has been preserved to perfection.
In the center of the village you will find first-class restaurants, fashion boutiques and many sports shops.
One of the most popular features at Mageve was the Casino Barriere. This closed in 2019, but Le Stelsia Casino opened nearby. Here, you can play the baccarat table or try your luck on the slots. Games like Sizzling Hot are guaranteed to thaw you out after a day on the slopes!
Courchevel, Lifts opening November 17th
Known as the most elegant and expensive resort in the huge Trois Vallées ski area, Courchevel is popular with celebrities and wealthy tourists.
p> Courchevel has a good range of ski runs and an area for skiing, along with a linked ski lift system which makes it easy to reach connecting stations such as La Tania and Méribel.
With premium five-star resorts and a wealth of designer shops to explore, Courchevel is awash with many skiers. You might also spot the Beckhams or Prince William and Kate Middleton, who are well-known visitors to this upscale resort.
Méribel, Lifts opening December 4th
Méribel is the town in the heart of the Tarentaise valley. With an extensive network of green runs, the ski area around the village of Méribel is perfect for beginners, and with good connections to Couchevel and Val Thorens there is a wide spectrum of runs to discover.
Despite Méribel's low position, there are always chances of reaching safer terrain for snow. Méribel is a picturesque hilltop village with wooden Alpine buildings. Méribel, a predominantly English-speaking resort, lacks some French authenticity, but offers a friendly atmosphere and some good pubs for great après-ski.
Val Thorens, Lifts opening November 20th
With the highest point of Trois Vallées, Val Thorens is undoubtedly the best resort in the area for quality skiing. The highest ski resort in Europe with skiable peaks reaching 3220 meters, Val Thorens is very reliable for the quality of the snow and maintains good conditions throughout the season.
Being a specially designed area, some might say it lacks character compared to other ski areas, but with a number of bars and the largest nightclub in the Alps, Malaysia, offering live music and entertainment suitable for anyone.

Macugnaga Monterosa
Macugnaga sorge a circa 1.300 metri di quota, al termine della Valle Anzasca, davanti alla spettacolare parete Est del Monte Rosa. Alta circa 2.600 metri e solcata da canaloni e ghiacciai, è la più imponente parete delle Alpi e regala alla località un ambiente di dimensioni quasi himalayane. Il paese conserva inoltre una forte identità walser, riconoscibile nelle antiche abitazioni di legno e pietra delle frazioni di Staffa, Pecetto, Borca e del caratteristico nucleo del Dorf.
