The "operational arm" in the Veneto region for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina was officially born.
The president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, the president of the Province of Belluno, Roberto Padrin, and the mayor of Cortina d''Ampezzo, Gianpietro Ghedina, signed the deed of incorporation of the "Cortina Foundation" on Tuesday in Venice, which will be chaired by Stefano Longo. The objective of the institution, in the coming years, will be to promote and organize events, demonstrations and initiatives related to the carrying out of sporting or cultural events - national and international - within an overall framework of development and enhancement of the territory, also with reference to the Alpine Ski World Cup and the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Aware of the importance of the legacy that remained in the area after the 2021 Alpine Ski World Championships, the Foundation also proposes itself as an interlocutor, for activities related to Cortina d''Ampezzo, in relations with the International Olympic Committee and the Foundation Milan-Cortina 2026. The purpose of the Foundation is also to safeguard the sporting and cultural values of Cortina d''Ampezzo and the entire Veneto region, while respecting its history and its consolidated environmental value.
Ordinary founding members are the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Cortina d''Ampezzo and the Province of Belluno. The Cortina - S. Vito Cadore - Auronzo / Misurina Cableway System Operators Consortium, the Cortina ASD Ski Club and the Cortina Federalberghi Hoteliers Association are honorary founding members. “With this signature - declared Marco Zardini, president of the Consorzio Esercenti Impianti a Fune di Cortina d''Ampezzo, San Vito, Auronzo and Misurina (Cortina Skiworld) - we are committed to enhancing Cortina and the whole Belluno mountains. For this reason, together with the other members of the Foundation, we will undertake to carry out activities consistent with these values and objectives, in the awareness that the tourist, cultural and local tradition components must be respected and valued.
For us the mountains are life, and for this very reason we want to facilitate the promotion and development of our territory ".
