As reported by Le Dauphiné Libéré, last weekend there was an important meeting to lay the foundations for an event that would bring the Games back to France after Albertville 1992.

The second edition of the Winter Olympic Games in the Alps, after Milan-Cortina 2026 which will bring the five-ring event back to the heart of Europe following the events of Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014, PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022?
It is possible to happen, given that the regions of Auvergne Rhone-Alpes and Savoie are working on a candidacy to be presented for the 2030 Games: last Saturday, a meeting on the topic was staged in Moutiers, in the presence of mayors of the various municipalities involved, with the same plants used for Albertville 1992 still operational. “It's more than a fantasy”, reports a source to the newspaper Le Dauphiné Libéré, with a different proposal than what had been tried with Annecy and Gap.
There is no shortage of the first negative reactions, in particular from the environmentalist world, but certainly we must hurry since a decision by the IOC is expected no later than 2023 (the Summer Olympics are already assigned until 2032, when we go to Brisbane). Possible rivals? There has been talk in recent weeks of the Norway hypothesis, but Vancouver would still be in pole position, to attempt an encore twenty years after the 2010 edition, with Salt Lake City and Sapporo, which have already hosted the Games as the Canadians, on the run.
