Below is the text of the statement published on its official website by CONI with which it launches the Milan / Turin application for the Winter Games of 2026.

"The Italian National Olympic Committee has informed the International Olympic Committee that it wants to continue the Dialogue Phase for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, already launched in the last few months, following the invitation by the IOC, received on 29 September 2017. at a formal deadline indicated by the CIO itself and after numerous meetings and contacts with the leaders of the International Olympic Committee, CONI has expressed this intention through a letter indicating the candidacy of the City of Milan / Turin. indicated that the CONI is waiting for the formation of the new Government to which, in the times and in the ways that will be agreed, will submit a feasibility study already carried out at the beginning of 2018, for an overall evaluation of the whole project that can bring benefits to the whole Italy also in light of the containment of costs envisaged by the 2020 Agenda. CONI recalls that the Dialogue Phase provides for a collaboration between CONI, the City and the CIO to verify the best solution that adapts to the needs of the country, thus considering the possibility, as part of a single project, to extend also to other possible territories solutions for the different Olympic competitions. After the Dialogue Phase will be exclusively the IOC, respecting its technical skills and the Olympic Charter, to decide which City to invite to be officially nominated for the Winter Olympic Games 2026. For any other comment the CONI refers to the IOC communications scheduled for Tuesday, April 3 ".
It seems therefore to understand that the CONI wrote to the IOC proposing the joint candidacy of the cities of Milan and of Turin specifying to remain awaiting the formation of the new Italian government that will assess the feasibility and benefits of the whole project on the basis of a feasibility study already realized by our Olympic committee at the beginning of the year. But the final word on which city to nominate will be up to the IOC who should let you know something about it in less than a week. We do not know how much hopes Milan has, certainly Torino could have more, despite many installations of the 2006 Games are in disuse when not completely abandoned. The candidacy of the Piedmontese capital had been supported by the mayor pentastellate Chiar Appendino and the association "Torino 2026" was also launched, which will have to assess whether a new edition of the Winter Games can benefit the first capital of the Italian state.
