Alpe Lusia: Moena, Bellamonte

According to official data, the ski area comprises 26 km of pistes, 22 runs and 8 lifts. The slopes extend approximately between 1,367 metres at Castelir-Bellamonte and 2,340 metres at the highest point of the resort. There are two main access points: from Ronchi, four kilometres above Moena, and from Castelir, reachable in just a few minutes from Bellamonte and Predazzo.

The northern side facing Moena is the more technical one. From the panoramic Le Cune area, located at around 2,200 metres, skiers descend towards Valbona and Ronchi on red and black runs with sustained gradients and often firm snow. The best-known is Piavac, a 1.3-km black run whose initial steep pitch is considered one of the most demanding in the Dolomites. Experienced skiers can also tackle Direttissima, the short Canalone Tomba and the most technical section of Fiamme Oro.

The red runs Fiamme Oro 2, Le Cune, Mediolanum and Lastè instead offer long and varied descents, suitable for intermediate skiers with a good level of fitness. The combination of runs descending from Le Cune towards Ronchi makes it possible to tackle almost 1,000 metres of vertical drop, alternating open slopes, steeper pitches and wooded sections. This is the best sector for those looking for sporty skiing and pistes on which to refine their technique.

The Bellamonte side, predominantly south-facing, offers almost opposite characteristics. The pistes are wide and sunny, and mostly blue or easy red runs, ideal for families, beginners and skiers who prefer a relaxed experience. The Castelir, Ciafuli, Fraine, Dolomitica and Le Fassane runs wind through meadows and forests with splendid views of the Pale di San Martino. The Zirmes piste, around 3 km long, is one of the most enjoyable descents for intermediate skiers.

The 8 lifts are modern and well distributed. On the Moena side, two eight-seater gondolas connect Ronchi with Valbona and Le Cune, while three four-seater chairlifts with bubbles serve the central pistes. From Bellamonte, the two ten-seater gondolas, Castelir-Le Fassane and Le Fassane-La Morea, provide fast and comfortable access to the resort. The offering is completed by the Valbona surface lift serving the beginners’ area.

Alpe Lusia is therefore suitable for a very broad range of visitors: experienced skiers will find some short but challenging black runs on the Moena side, while Bellamonte offers an especially family- and beginner-friendly environment. Morea Snowpark, Boardercross Lusia, Aquile Fun Slope, Baby Boardercross and the timed courses expand the options for snowboarders, freestylers and youngsters.

The ski area is part of the larger Alpe Lusia–San Pellegrino resort. The same lift pass also allows skiing on the pistes of Passo San Pellegrino and Falcade, bringing the overall offering to around 95 km; the two areas are not connected on skis, however, and travelling between them requires a car or ski bus. Alpe Lusia is also not directly connected to the Sellaronda, although it is part of the Dolomiti Superski circuit.

The resort’s strengths include snowmaking, well-groomed runs and the presence of mountain huts and restaurants distributed across both sides. Non-skiers can also take the gondolas up to Valbona, Le Cune or La Morea, reaching panoramic terraces, playgrounds, toboggan runs and snowshoe trails. In Moena, cross-country skiing is particularly associated with the Marcialonga trails, which traditionally start in the village.

In summer, the Alpe Lusia lifts provide access to hiking trails, mountain-bike routes and numerous family activities. On the Bellamonte side are the Family Park Giro d’Ali, the Frainus themed trail and the walk to Malga Bocche, which is also suitable for pushchairs. From Moena, visitors can reach the Sentiero degli Animali, the Sentiero Natura and the panoramic terrace at Le Cune. The area’s proximity to Paneveggio Natural Park and the Pale di San Martino makes it an excellent starting point for excursions between Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme.
