Monte Bondone

The ski area has 20 km of alpine ski runs, spread over approximately 70 hectares and ranging from 1,200 metres in the lower sector to 2,098 metres at Cima Palon. The area is not particularly large, but the vertical drop of nearly 900 metres, the exposure of the different slopes and the variety of runs mean that there are suitable options for both families and more experienced skiers. The entire skiable area is covered by artificial snowmaking.

The heart of the ski area is Vason, at 1,650 metres, from where the three-seater Palon chairlift departs. Once at the top, skiers can descend the Palon and Canalon runs or head towards the Rocce Rosse sector. The Palon chairlift is not among the most recent lifts and takes around nine minutes to reach the highest point, but during the ascent it offers increasingly broad views of the mountains of Trentino.

The signature run of Monte Bondone is the Gran Pista Rocce Rosse, a long red run measuring 3,550 metres, with a vertical drop of around 800 metres, an average gradient of 30% and maximum gradients of 42%. It is the resort’s most technical and rewarding run, served by a fast, automatic four-seater chairlift that reaches the entire sector in just over seven minutes. When open in its entirety, Rocce Rosse decisively changes the character of the ski area, offering a long, uninterrupted descent that is unusual for a ski area of this size.

The runs at Montesel and in the 3-Tre area are better suited to beginner and intermediate skiers. The trails are generally wide, well exposed and free of particularly complicated sections, while the nursery slopes and magic carpets make first contact with the snow easier. The four main lifts quickly link the various sectors: the network is straightforward and not entirely made up of the latest-generation lifts, but the compactness of the area makes it easy to move around without long connecting sections.

Monte Bondone is also particularly popular with snowboarders and freestyle enthusiasts. The Monte Bondone Snowpark, served by the Montesel chairlift, extends between approximately 1,470 and 1,600 metres and offers jibbing and slopestyle lines, jumps of varying difficulty, rails, boxes, a boardercross course and a junior area. On some evenings during the season, night skiing is also organised, with illuminated runs and an impressive view of the lights of Trento.

A short distance from the downhill runs, in the sunny Viote basin at 1,565 metres, lies the Centro Fondo Viote. The centre offers 35 km of loops of varying lengths and difficulty, groomed for both classic and skating techniques. One 3 km track has artificial snowmaking; ski school, equipment rental, waxing, changing rooms, storage, a play area and a groomed snowshoe trail are also available. The setting, at the foot of the Three Peaks of Monte Bondone, is one of the most interesting scenic features of the entire resort.

In summer, Monte Bondone becomes Trento’s great green outdoor area. Hiking trails and mountain-bike routes cross woods, pastures and the Tre Cime del Monte Bondone Integral Nature Reserve; the Palon chairlift provides easy access to high-altitude routes and panoramic viewpoints. At Viote, visitors can explore the Alpine Botanical Garden, home to more than a thousand plant species, and the Terrazza delle Stelle, the MUSE astronomical observatory. Its proximity to the city, ease of access and winter and summer sports offering make Monte Bondone particularly suitable for families, beginners and short stays, without sacrificing challenging runs such as the Gran Pista Rocce Rosse.
