Carezza, new 10-seater gondola lift "König Laurin"

The new gondola lift will have an "invisible" mountain station, all underground. You will only see the entrance and exit openings of the cabins and access to the gallery designed for the passage of hikers and skiers to the ski slopes.

Work has begun on the new 10-seater "König Laurin" gondola lift in Carezza which will connect the Frommeralm hut hotel with the Fronza alle Coronelle refuge. The lift will replace the two Laurin II and Laurin III chairlifts. A total length of 1,807 m, a vertical drop of over 560 meters and an intermediate station. The new cable car will be able to transport passengers to 2337 meters in height in just over 6 minutes. The top station project was designed by South Tyrolean architect Werner Tscholl who chooses the principle of sustainable mobility. "Given the delicacy of the environment and the exposed position, the area planned for the construction of the new mountain station does not lend itself to inserting into the landscape a purely technical structure conceived according to traditional formal criteria. The mountain station, in fact, is located right in front of the walls of the Rosengarten Catinaccio massif. The current complex of existing structures, with the chairlift station, the Fronza alle Coronelle refuge and the Laurins Lounge, appears to be unfavorable for enjoying the mountain panorama. Hence the need to prioritize a solution with minimal visual impact for insertion in this environment ", says Werner Tscholl, awarded in 2016 as the Italian Architect of the year. The idea is therefore to keep the additional architectural element introduced with the new upstream station "hidden". The Tschein chairlift of the Hotel Moseralm will also be extended, allowing you to walk to the shores of Lake Carezza. "With this intervention, it will be possible to dismantle the Moseralm Baby ski lift, not only managing to optimize transport for skiing but also proposing a valid solution for summer use. The vision that animates us is to have a car-free plateau at the foot of the Catinaccio, to be enjoyed in all its beauty. Starting from Nova Levante, in the future it will therefore be possible to use the cable car and, continuing on foot, by bicycle or with other systems, to reach Lake Carezza in an ecological way and return. Also from that body of water, you can also walk for about twenty minutes to the valley station of the Tschein chairlift which, with the new Re Laurino cableway, will guarantee the connection to the Fronza alle Coronelle refuge ”explains Florian Eisath, former athlete of the Alpine Ski World Cup, today CEO of Carezza Dolomites.

Garessio 2000.
