Next winter the French ski area Les Arcs-Peisey Vallandry will present as a novelty a 10-seater gondola with eco-sustainable features.
Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof of the station upstream of the plant to generate renewable energy. There is also a heat recovery system which will then be reused. Rainwater will also be recovered and redistributed for the area's non-drinking water needs.
The goal is to self-produce at least 25% of the electricity used for the ski area from renewable sources by 2030. Already today, 100% of electricity comes from renewable energy.
On 7 December 2020, the French organization Mountain Riders awarded the Les Arcs ski area the "Flocon Vert" (Green Snowflake) label for its commitment to sustainable development. It was the first resort in Savoy to receive this recognition. The station has in fact also built a chalet with a type of construction that allows to halve energy consumption.
The cable car will replace the old chairlift and will take skiers to an altitude of 2138 meters in just 6 minutes.
