The Czech champion, who left the biathlon world in 2019, was on vacation in the Valtellina resort. After a bike ride, he lost all reference and spent a night out in the open; rescuers found it yesterday afternoon.

A great fright, but above all a huge sigh of relief for the fate of Gabriela Soukalova.
The winner of the Biathlon World Cup at the end of the record year signed by the Czech in 2015/16, in the midst of winning two world titles and two Olympic silver medals in Sochi 2014, took a really big risk in the hours passed, on vacation with her husband in Livigno.
What happened? As reported by "La Provincia di Sondrio", the Czech star was found only on Thursday, safe and sound, by the Fire Brigade of Livigno and by the soldiers of the Sagf-Guardia di Finanza of Bormio, engaged in research with the Alpine Rescue as Soukalova had got lost, by now Wednesday afternoon, on a bicycle ride.
Gabriela had lost her orientation: despite having managed to warn, giving some indications of the place where she was, and to communicate that the cell phone battery was running low, a whole night of research was needed, with the central activated the Cnsas (National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps), Livigno and Bormio Stations, the Sagf (Alpine Rescue Guardia di Finanza) and the Fire Brigade of the Valtellinese locality.
The teams beat the primary zones, at first without success. Yesterday morning, fortunately, a person heard shouting on the side of the mountain opposite the one on which he was, near the lake of Livigno, and he warned the rescuers: this allowed to narrow down the search area and in the early afternoon the biathlon champion was found by the territorial teams. Soukalova was at an altitude of 2270 meters and, despite having spent the night in the open, she was fine. The rescue helicopter from Sondrio di Areu, the regional emergency emergency agency, intervened on site.
