Antonella Bellutti is back on track: the two Olympic champion will challenge Malagò for the presidency of CONI

As anticipated by "La Gazzetta dello Sport", the Bolzano-born protagonist also in the bobsleigh world with Gerda Weissensteiner, after the two five-circle gold medals in track cycling, is a candidate to become the first woman to lead the Italian sport. Elections in spring 2021.

A real return to the track, you choose whether the wooden one of the velodromes that has dominated for many years, or that of his first love, athletics, or if we are talking about winter disciplines a gut in which to throw yourself with that bob where he demonstrated, in a very short time, how immense his class was at every level. Antonella Bellutti, an authentic legend of Italian sport, will be a candidate for the leadership of CONI: it was announced by "La Gazzetta dello Sport" on today's edition, with the bi Olympic ready to challenge the current president Giovanni Malagò in the election that will be staged in the course of spring 2021, even if the dates have not yet been fixed considering the problems related to the pandemic. The Bolzano champion would be the first woman at the helm of Italian sport, she who twice became Olympic champion in track cycling, gold in the pursuit at the 1996 Atlanta Games and then again in the points race at Sydney 2000, before diving into the ice adventure of the two-person bob. Brake of the crew formed with a star such as Gerda Weissensteiner, who in Lillehammer 1994 had given Italy a legendary Olympic title in sledding, reached a 7th place that is anything but to be underestimated, at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City , before Antonella devoted herself to her post career. Already a member of the CONI board of athletes in 2001, at the time of Petrucci's presidency, Bellutti graduated in Motor Sciences and, in her new life, opened a bed & breakfast ("Itinerande") together with her partner Viviana, in the small and splendid Andogno, the heart of the Brenta Dolomites. He spoke of the difficulties of making the Italian sporting panorama understand the value of multidisciplinarity on NEVEITALIA, with Dario Puppo and Massimiliano Ambesi who hosted it last June in a dedicated episode of “Puppo & Ambesi Summertime”. And that will be one of the strong themes of a certainly difficult candidacy, given that the ground to be recovered from Malagò is certainly a lot, but very interesting in a comparison that will have to make the whole movement grow.
