Kaillie Humphries on the run on the first day of the world championships in Altenberg. The American, former standard bearer of the maple leaf, stamps another noteworthy heat and further distances the two main rivals, Kalicki and Nolte, in a two-man bobsleigh race which, halfway through the race, already signals a margin definitely important with 34 and 43 cents behind for the two Germans.
For the first pursuer, Kim Kalicki, a much better descent than the previous one, where she scores the second part time just behind Humphries; performance that allows her to overtake her compatriot Laura Nolte, who leads with perhaps excessively clean lines even in this second heat. Fight for medals which, beyond surprises, seems restricted to this trio as the other stars and stripes athlete, Elana Meyers-Taylor, is 4 tenths away from the podium.
Even more distant, all beyond the second, the other competitors, where the excellent second descent of the Romanian Grecu is to be reported, which allows her to recover from 12th to seventh position, and to put her in full fight for the fourth / fifth square, in a group that includes the Austrian Beierl, the German Schneider and Jamanka (bad second heat for her), the Swiss Fontanive and the Canadian Appiah.
The two final runs of the two-man bobsleigh are scheduled for Saturday: the third run at 2.30 pm, the fourth at 16.00, while tomorrow in the morning the male crews of the two-man bob will take to the track, with the first run at 10 am and the second at 11.30.
Eyes on the ruler Francesco Friedrich, ready to write further pages of history. The crew made up of Patrick Baumgartner and brakeman Eric Fantazzini were present for the blue colors.
