The former Swiss hobbyist, gold in the 4-man bobsleigh at the 1988 Calgary Olympic Games, passed away at 68, after a long illness.

Ekkehard Fasser, Olympic champion in 4-man bobsleigh at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, passed away on Friday 9 April at the age of 68.
The former Swiss hobbyist, a native of Glarus, would have turned 69 on 3 September. Long suffering from a serious illness, he died in Rieden in the canton of St. Gallen, where he had lived for some time. The mourning was announced by Swiss Sliding, the Swiss federation of gut disciplines.
Fasser will undoubtedly be remembered for his feat at the 1988 Calgary Olympic Games, when together with fellow countrymen Marcel Faessler, Kurt Meier and Werner Stocker he won a splendid gold medal in the 4-man bobsleigh, beating the most highly rated Soviet Union and East Germany.
Furthermore, in his palmarès we find a European title in the 4-man bobsleigh (Sarajevo 1983) and a world title always in the same specialty (Lake Placid 1983).
Ekkehard Fasser, who was a foreman by profession, announced his immediate retirement from competitive competitions at the end of the '88 Calgary race where he won the Olympic gold.
