Patrick Chan, you've got a huge score, you've improved your best season, how do you feel?
Chan: It 'was a great challenge, I had skated very well the short program in the past but then I have not beat the best score in the free. For example at the World Championships in Nice I had completed a great short but I have not skated perfectly in the free. I set myself a goal, a free skate clean, which I could in training but not in the race. I was nervous, anxious and worried. It 's hard to prepare when you have to complete 2 quad and triple axel, but the trick I learned is the breathing between the elements. It's no good running from one element to another, so I try to breathe throughout the program.
It 's amazing how they can play with the music, it is something never seen before.
Chan: Maybe I have to thank my mother for making me take piano lessons. I do not think you have much talent in music, but this is a song to which I returned this season for a reason, I know the rhythm, the timing, the necessary space, the musical phrases. I love him, I listen a lot, it is an unforgettable music. I went back on this program in this season because I think a song that suits me a lot. Everything fits perfectly with the music and it is much easier to run the program until the end, I can keep the pace and still be fast. Every skater has a piece of music that works perfectly for him and I was lucky enough to identify it.
After performances so perfect skaters usually always say they need to improve. What do you think?
Chan: I am very happy with how I skated, I honestly could not do better. They are generally very critical of myself but sometimes you find peace and now is definitely the case to do so. I wish I could repeat these two good performances in the upcoming races: the final grand prix, the national and the Olympics. I'm glad to have been able to do so early in the season already. Everything reminds me of the season when I won my first world like this, I have to continue to progress which does not necessarily mean working out harder or add technical elements. Can I improve on the last top that should be level 4 and I got level 3, but other than that I am very pleased with myself.
Yesterday you said you feel "static", how did it go today instead?
Chan: Today I felt free and I felt I had control over every single time when I skated. I think this is, after all, the reason why we continue to compete. Not for medals or money, but to get on the ice, compete and feel beaten. I've made mistakes because of this adrenaline in the past. It's not that I felt heavy or tired, but still a part of me was very cautious and focused on not tripping. Think you can win the Olympics?
Chan: Of course receive a score like that the Olympic Games will be very difficult, there are only 8 other competitors and is a stage which I have already participated in numerous times. These Olympic Games will instead be only the second edition to which I participate and I scontrerò with many other guys. It 'a different race, with different atmosphere, so we'll see. It will be a good challenge and my goal is to skate just like yesterday and today.
By now you are a very experienced skater. Do you remember your very first grand prix and what advice can you give to young people?
Chan: I think I was a bit 'like Jason now, he is going great, it's phenomenal, in fact I was just telling him how many improvements I noticed than at Skate America. It 's so that snub each season: one game at a time trying to improve compared to the last. I am very happy for him, it is not easy to compete at an international level so congratulations to Jason for rising for the first time on a podium senior.
What is your next goal?
No doubt the Olympics. I will continue to work and train so that you can repeat the excellent performance of today and yesterday also the Games. I can not predict what will happen in the final grand prix, will be a challenge: it is in Japan, far away from home while Daisuke Takahashi will have the advantage of skating at home. My only expectations high, there are already past and I have already won a final then I will go there and will attack just like I did today.
What sets you apart from others is the sophistication of your movements, it is pure talent or did you learn in some way in particular?
Chan: We're all talented, otherwise we would not be here and we would not go so far away. So: no, it is not only talented, there is a lot of work behind. With Katie work on things that no one else does. It is not about anything in particular, most of the work is done off the ice to develop the talent I have. There is a lot of hard work behind, so much time spent, a lot of experience - that helps so much.
Jason Brown, it's your first senior season and this is your first senior medal.
Brown: I'm really excited to be on the podium with two of the skaters more extraordinary, is a dream come true. I'm really excited, I know I failed to complete the second triple axel but I was still happy to be left standing and you have treated.
Jason, your program was probably the "dance" more beautiful. How did you choose the music and how you composed the songs?
Brown: It 'was my choreographer to choose the music, so much so that my coach was somewhat shocked by choice. But he was sure of what he was doing and wanted me to do just that. The first day that I have performed on the ice I was not sure I could relate with the music but when we started to choreograph the program, I was in love with the same. He pushed me beyond my limits at different levels: artistically, mentally .. but I love it.
Yuzuru Hanyu, at the beginning of the program you missed out on something and then recover during the rest of the year. What has happened?
Hanyu: On the quadruple Salchow went too strong, I focused too much on that and then also the quadruple toe loop did not go well, then I calmed down and luckily I was able to run a good performance, so it was nice. Chan has just explained his choice of music, you also have already done Romeo and Juliet in the past. Why have you returned to this music?
Hanyu: The story is the same, but the shape is completely changing. The music is different, I'm different, so the perception is different.
Which do you think is the difference between you and Chan?
Hanyu: Regarding in particular the race today, it is the quadruple Salchow and toe loop. Another difference is the experience, I have to train more and keep working.
Yesterday during the short're gone very well and you were still in second place, but your face today betrayed a different emotion. How do you feel?
Hanyu: Now I am very disappointed. A little 'as at Skate Canada, I was not able to complete the quadruple Salchow at the time and I was not disappointed.'ll Be home and I will continue to train on these two key elements, the two quads.
We are all clueless as to the team competition. What do you think, participate or will someone else?
Chan: The team competition will be interesting. I obviously attend. I can not say if I am already both segments or just one, it depends on me, from my technical and the Federation. Some think it is not a good play before the team competition, as it may skate the program of life there and not in the individual competition. I think it's a great opportunity for those lucky enough to attend. How many times have I exited the runway thinking "I wish I could skate again," and here's a chance: skate in front of the Russian public, try a little 'ice. A little 'as what happened to me here today - I skated in Paris often in the past.
Hanyu: There are so many strong skaters in Japan at the time. So first of all I have to qualify to go to Sochi for the individual competition, that is my main goal. If you attend, I'd love to fight for the Japanese team.
Brown: This is a great opportunity for anyone to get another Olympic medal. It 'a great way to start the Olympics, I think it's great.
