Official from the FISG: "The situation is delicate, we do not understand how it could have happened", explains the Italian director, Stefan Zisser. The World Cup is not in danger, but it is now imminent.

Covid-19 continues to create problems for the Italian ice hockey team. Currently, in fact, there are 10 cases of positivity in the blue group: they are 7 players, a member of the coaching staff and two members of the team support staff.
To respect the right to privacy regarding sensitive data such as those related to health status, and pending the results of further tests that could make the people involved considered cured, the names of those who have been found positive to Sars-CoV- 2 are not disclosed by the FISG. "The situation is undoubtedly delicate and we cannot understand how the virus could have entered the team - comments the sporting director of the national teams, Stefan Zisser - what is certain is that we are doing everything possible to be able to leave for the World Top Division.
We earned our participation in the world championship tournament on the pitch, and we want to honor this commitment to the end by respecting the values of sport ”.
For precautionary reasons, in agreement with the technical staff, the FISG has decided to suspend team training in order to minimize any type of contact and chance of contagion. From today, the whole group of the national team present at the Bolzano meeting has entered the so-called "bubble", and the Covid-19 security protocols established by the IIHF which provide for PCR tests every 48 hours will be respected. A protocol that, in reality, the Italian Ice Sports Federation had already begun to respect in recent weeks, carrying out both antigen tests and molecular tests on a regular basis. To remedy the absences due to Covid-19, additional calls have been issued with respect to the original ones.
Goalkeeper Jake Smith and forwards Leonardo Felicetti and Simone Dadiè are back in the blue group, defender Peter Spornberger is expected shortly (as soon as the DEL2 play-offs are over), full-back Stefano Marchetti is added to the rally, called to bring experience in the back department. In addition, the coaching staff was reinforced with the entry of Florian Keinz, video coach of Adler Mannheim.
The departure of the national team for Riga, home of the World Top Division, is scheduled for Sunday 16 May, while the debut is scheduled for Friday 21 at 4.15 pm (3.15 pm in Italy) against Germany. Subsequently Italy will face Norway, Latvia, Finland, Kazakhstan, Canada and the United States in order.
