Last year there were no duels with Ilka Stuhec and Sofia Goggia, perhaps the two main favorites in the title of speed queen, for several reasons as the Slovenian champion remained far from her levels after the new injury to knees remedied in Crans-Montana in February 2019, and the Olympian from Bergamo has experienced a very difficult season from various points of view.
Still, it cannot be said that Corinne Suter did not deserve to sign the brace of crystal balls between descent and super-g, beating Ester Ledecka and, in the second case, for only one point Federica Brignone. The growth of the 25-year-old rossocrociata was evident in every aspect, with that innate smoothness that clearly made the difference in various race contexts; after several months of lockdown, relaxation and the resumption of athletic training, the new queen of World Cup speed has put her skis back on since the beginning of this week.
He did it on the Zermatt glacier, where Wendy Holdener has already been training for a few weeks, "crossed" even for a few super-g sessions; decidedly later than most of the colleagues, practically all on the track already in June, also for the choice of Swiss-Ski to bring all their national teams on their home glaciers starting only from the second week of July for a large block of summer training, Corinne will now be able to start working on the details to grow further, as the margins seem to be there.
And there will be really fun in the 2020/21 season, with the blue and the Austrians (and the expected return of Stuhec to the top) the first "hunters" of the holder of the World Cup of speed.
