With the triumph in the slalom in Semmering, Mikaela gets closer to Vonn and Stenmark, but writes other pages of history in the round. And the double with Moltzan takes the United States back over half a century: "I don't know what to say, winning here with Paula by my side is even more special."

Lindsey Vonn and Ingemar Stenmark, if we limit ourselves to alpine skiing. Marit Bjoergen, unattainable (for now) with 114 successes, the myth of freestyle Conny Kissling, and then again from speed skating Gunda Niemann, from biathlon Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and, second Norwegian in cross-country skiing, Therese Johaug. Well, as Massimiliano Ambesi punctually recalled immediately after the race, the Semmering slalom brought Mikaela Shiffrin into the dimension of the myths of the Winter Olympic disciplines, i.e. those who have won at least 80 victories in the World Cup. Eight legends, two of which are now within Mikaela's grasp, as Vonn (82 pearls in cup) and Stenmark (86) could also be matched and surpassed this season which sees the crystal ball wielder, always more launched towards the top five in the general classification (and in that it would be -1 from Annemarie Moser-Proell and -3 from Marcel Hirscher), having already signed 6 seals between slalom, giant and super-g. With the big night in her Semmering (another record, there are seven hurrays in the Austrian town as happened for her only in Courchevel), Mikaela is in an open streak of 4 victories in 3 different disciplines, but the number 50 is also a record, speaking only of CdM slalom, the only one ever to reach such a figure in a single specialty. As for the 80 overall, they are divided as follows: 50 in slalom, 16 in giant, 5 in super-g, as many in parallel/city events, 3 in downhill and 1 in combined. Everything became perfect at the end of the fifth slalom of the season with the place of honor conquered by Paula Moltzan, completing a double that the United States had been missing for over half a century in this race (Mont St. Anne 1971 with Marilyn and Barbara-Ann Cochran). "I really don't know what to say - Shiffrin expressed all her emotion to the FIS microphones, a few minutes after the end of the race and the very intense embrace with Moltzan - Paula did an incredible heat, I saw her from the start and this is a very nice day for the whole team. I heard the great support from the audience, this place is special for this too and I hope they enjoyed it. That's how it was for me."
