All the charge of the American, finally on a podium in slalom for a one-two only in some ways unexpected (and that hasn't been seen for over half a century overseas). Duerr happy with Semmering's 3rd place, at the foot of the podium are Shiffrin's two great rivals who are already thinking about redemption in Zagreb.

Behind the queen, four athletes with different reactions and moods at the end of the last race of 2022, the Semmering slalom (the fifth in the World Cup) which brought Mikaela Shiffrin straight into history, but also Paula Moltzan where the 28-year-old had never reached in her career.
Clearly, the 2nd place on the "Panorama" has a much more significant technical and symbolic value than the same place of honor obtained over two years ago in the parallel Lech/Zuers. Moltzan's first podium in slalom cannot be an absolute surprise, because the quality of the skiing (even in giant slalom) shown in this first part of the season was evident to everyone, but certainly seeing Paula only 29 cents from her compatriot made the eyes to many.
“Obviously I couldn't be more proud of myself and of the whole team – she declared via the US Ski Team press office after the race – It's even more beautiful to get this result in front of my parents; yes, we made history (a one-two stars and stripes in slalom hadn't arrived for almost 52 years, as we have already mentioned, it was Marilyn and Barbara-Ann Cochran who succeeded in Mont St. Anne in February 1971).
We have a great team, all the girls are so fast it will only take days or weeks before they really show what they can do."
A decidedly enlarged smile also that of Lena Duerr, on her first podium of the season, the fifth in slalom without having yet won in her discipline (remembering that almost 10 years ago, the German triumphed in CdM in the Moscow city event): "Finally I managed to run a really solid race, in the first and second heat”, the words of the Bavarian after the 3rd place brought home on the Panorama, quite clearly putting behind two totems like Vlhova and Holdener.
Let's start with Wendy, who yesterday ran with the red bib shared with Shiffrin, but gave up 55 points to Mikaela with a fifth place which represents the worst result of the season in slalom for Holdener. Petra, on the other hand, has never come out of the top four positions in five races (with a trio of third places), but she still hasn't unlocked herself in terms of successes and leaves Semmering with 369 pts of gap from the leader of the general standings.
Many, perhaps already too many to think of the second absolute crystal ball after that of 2020/21, but also in the specialty ranking the situation is complicated and the trend seems to have reversed compared to a year ago, when the Slovak triumphed in 5 of the first 6 slalom (closing 2nd in Killington, and then behind Shiffrin in Schladming before the Olympic title). In Zagreb, in the double appointment scheduled for 4-5 January, even if the danger of precarious conditions, in terms of snow cover and slope quality, is really high, we will understand if Vlhova can still be in the game, she is the queen of Sljeme in the last three disputed editions.
