The rebirth of Elena Curtoni, with Bansko in fate and now a different belief

The Valtellina, back from the first success in the World Cup, can start a second phase of the career with many goals ahead.

The 2019/2020 season was certainly that of Federica Brignone and her first World Cup (also seasoned with two specialty crystal balls), that of the explosion of Marta Bassino and her podiums in five disciplines, but it has arrived the first victory in the maximum circuit not only for the Piedmontese, but also for a newfound Elena Curtoni. The 29-year-old blue sprinter had been very difficult for three years, with two serious injuries to condition her heavily, but everything has changed returning to Bansko who, already in 2015, saw her touch the first triumph; that day, it was only the fog that stopped the super-g that saw her in front of everyone with the best time, but on 25 January 2020 the prize arrived that, considering the talent shown from a very young age and the huge bad luck that followed Elena deserved it. The all-Italian hat-trick with Marta Bassino second and Federica Brignone third was the highest point of the magical season of Rulfi's girls; sure, the Valtellina sprinter loves the Bulgarian track and the only podium of 2019/2020 came on that occasion (with the 4th place in the first of the two scheduled descents), but the year of the youngest of the sisters Curtoni was however of a high level even before and especially after Bansko, with the 15th final place in the general (with 434 active points), the 6th downhill and the 11th in super-g, which remains her favorite discipline, the one that saw her win the junior world title in Crans-Montana 2011.
