An understandable choice, almost obvious given the tragedy that struck her. Mikaela Shiffrin takes a break from the World Cup, after having already skipped the stage of Rosa Khutor (even if in that case it was a "technical" choice).
The sudden disappearance of dad Jeff over the past weekend has led the American star to return with his family and mom Eileen to Colorado; in these hours, Mikaela is in Vail and there are no certain dates on her return to Europe, after having stopped training in Folgaria, the Trentino location from which she left in a hurry taking an immediate flight to Denver, after receiving the terrible news of the father's domestic accident.
The US federation confirmed in the night that the World Cup leader will take a break, without establishing certain times: no skiing in the absolute sense and no Garmisch races, at this point, with descent and super-g scheduled between Saturday and Sunday . The hypothesis is clearly that of a return to Maribor, for the giant and slalom of 15-16 February, a decisive stage at that point to defend the primacy also in the general classification, but there are no certainties in the current state of things.
And it is normal and right that it should be so.
