Quarterfinal Exit for Retornaz and Zardini Lacedelli in Oakville. Team Mariani Enjoys a Good Tournament in Edmonton

A good run, ending with a quarterfinal exit for Team Retornaz and Team Zardini Lacedelli, who made it through the triple-knockout stage, unlike the teams led by Spiller and Zisa, which were also competing on the ice in Oakville.

In Ontario, the 2026 edition of the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard concluded in recent hours. In the men’s event, the team led by Joel Retornaz, featuring Alberto Pimpini and Andrea and Stefano Gilli, was narrowly defeated 8-7 by Team Bottcher, who then went on to lose in the semifinals. The Canadian event was won by Team Casper, who beat McDonald 9-5 in the final.

The women’s final was an all-Swiss affair, with Alina Paetz and her teammates edging the team of Xenia Schwaller’s cousins 6-5. Schwaller’s team had eliminated the only Italian side in the field, featuring Giulia Zardini Lacedelli, Marta Lo Deserto, Elena Antonia Mathis and Rachele Scalesse, in the quarterfinals by a score of 6-4.

Also in Canada, in Edmonton, Team Mariani competed in its third tournament of the season after Stirling and Oslo and its first overseas event. At the Saville Shootout, Rebecca Mariani, Giada Zambelli, Camilla Gilberti and Letizia Carlisano finished Pool D with two wins and two losses, coming within a whisker of reaching the quarterfinals. The tournament was eventually won by Team Gray-Withers, who defeated Team Sturmay in the final.

At the end of this week, the very young Italian team will also compete in the Grand Prix Saville.
