The 56-year-old from Ticino, a few hours after the official agreement with Petra Vlhova, talks about this new adventure that follows those faced in the women's sector by guiding Maria Rienda Contreras, the "first" Lara Gut, the same Tina Maze and in the through the various experiences with multiple roles in Swiss Ski, before devoting himself to something else, including the assignment to the management of the ski lifts in his Airolo.
Already alongside Petra on the Jasna snow, Pini spoke of the “character qualities that make her one of the best female skiers in the world, if not the best. Yes, five years ago there was the opportunity to train her, but it was not the right time for both. On their part, above all on an organizational, financial and means level, on my part for family reasons with small children at home.
We find ourselves now, we see that it had to end like this ... ".
A return in style for the Ticino, after years always close to the world of skiing, but with other roles. “The fire has always been there, this is a particular profession and you must have the flame inside. I still have it and I'm not afraid of having everything to lose. Risk is part of the job, it is a question of energy and feeling that you can do it. I would never have started this path if the conditions had not existed ”.
There is also the idea of being able to bring the winner of the World Cup to train in Airolo. “It would be great, there are several projects on the table here. For the moment the agreement with Petra's team is a one-year plus option, as I have always done in my career, but the intention is to look forward, directly to the next Olympic cycle. Beijing? It is certainly a great stimulus for me too, having experienced the true emotions of two Olympics, I know what awaits us ... ”.
