Thursday begins the last meeting of CdM before the Olympic Games: Italy without Goggia and Bassino but, in addition to Johnson injured, Shiffrin, Vlhova, Gut-Behrami, Gisin, Mowinckel and Ledecka give up. In the end, Siebenhofer will be there, also because the possibility of playing for the downhill cup has reopened.

A questionable date, it is no coincidence that the men's sector (while remembering that the men's Olympic program starts first with the downhill tests from next week) will not compete in the last weekend of January, so much so that the Women's World Cup does stop in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, for the speed classics on Kandahar with descent on Saturday 29th and super-g on Sunday 30th, with a shower of absences as many protagonists are already thinking of Beijing 2022.
Thursday (11.30 the start) the first of the two tests towards the sixth seasonal descent, in which we will not see Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova at the start, who will not even make the super-g, but neither will Gut-Behrami, Ledecka, Gisin, Mowinckel and, due to injury, Breezy Johnson (who will not be at the Games) and obviously Sofia Goggia. At home in Italy, as already announced, no weekend of speed for Marta Bassino, ready to fly to China, while in the end they decided to be llka Stuhec, who for the usual knee problems had missed the super-g of Cortina, and Ramona Siebenhofer.
Here, the presence of the Austrian is important, who initially planned to give up Garmisch as well in addition to the giant of Kronplatz, since for her a possibility has opened up for the Downhill World Cup, finding herself in 2nd place at 136 points from Goggia, who will lose Garmisch but, clearly, is also at risk for the two races at the end of February in Crans-Montana.
Mirjam Puchner, another athlete who could re-enter the game, will open tomorrow's test with bib number 1, while the first three blue at the gate will be Federica Brignone (3), Nicol Delago (4) and her sister ( 5), who could never have the chance to attack the first career podium at these levels as never before. Kira Weidle (number 9 in test) will be able to try as well as Raedler, on his return after Covid and who will aim above all at the super-g, and a practically complete Austrian team, also thinking of Venier, Tippler and Huetter.
Corinne Suter, who first picked the number 13 for Thursday's training, could perhaps be considered the main favorite for Saturday's race, but everything is more open than ever. Also to Elena Curtoni (n ° 17 in test), not only in a super-g key, with Italy that will also field Francesca Marsaglia (bib 29), Roberta Melesi (36) and Karoline Pichler, 41st of only 43 athletes registered at the first test.
