Innerhofer clarifies: "Many do not understand, but with suffering I had to stop"

The explanation of the blue downhill runner, who ended the season prematurely by playing only one race per specialty in order to defend the injured player's status. An ordeal that hides many aspects from the most unknown.

Christof Innerhofer has decided to explain, even if the situation has been well known for weeks, the reasons why he ended his season prematurely at least in terms of races, playing only the super-g of Kitzbuehel and the descent of Garmisch. One by specialty, in fact, to protect his status from being injured and not to find himself forced, in the next season, to start with decidedly high numbers. In reality, however, there is much more behind the choice of the blue champion who wanted to clarify the aspects of his decision, also criticized by many. "In recent weeks I have noticed that some people do not understand why this year, after everything that happened to me, I decided to do only one race per discipline - writes Innerhofer on his social networks - I want to specify that for me it is a suffering not to compete and that there is nothing you love more. I left for the United States in November, although some doctors were not happy that I started training in fast disciplines. In addition to the cruciate ligament, they also had to mend my meniscus, which means six weeks of crutches and eight of braces. I lost 8 kg of weight only of the legs and buttocks, after three months at the first outing on the bike I was unable to do more than 30 km without the knee swelling. Only in late August I managed to train as per my habits, but also in November after 1000 hours of work and therapy, I felt as if the knee was not mine. I tried to return to Val Gardena, but it was too early as the knee did not do what my head wanted; I took a short break and went back to Wengen, where I went well in practice, but after two days the knee was swollen. Since it was half season gone and I wasn't 100% yet, I decided not to compete for this season anymore. My knee was not strong enough to hold a week of tests plus the races, but I have a lot of motivation for the future since in the four descent training sessions I was always in the 10. The knee is getting better, I still miss 10-15% to go back to being like before the injury; these are the times, 12 months to get back to the top, so I ask you to continue to believe in me, as I believe it, and understand the decision that unfortunately I had to make. I will not disappoint you. "
